resistance may be futile

Last week I bought 12 Botia striatas (which are doing great) when the pet shop accidentally got some it. This week, I drop by and they have horse faced loaches. If my wife had not been with me, I would have gotten them. Wisely, she pointed out that I would have to put them in the quarantine tank with the striatas and that would put them all at risk. Thus, I have held off for now. The lfs has figured out that I like loaches and seems to be stocking more variety than just the clowns and yoyos that are their usual fare. This seems like a good thing, but in practice I'm not so sure since it is awfully tempting to have easy to obtain loaches nearby. Thus, CLF and MoonPye, be forewarned that if you demand that your lfs carries more loaches, that they may actually do it and then resistance may be futile.

Resistance is futile, haha. Why do you think i am setting up my third tank this christmas.

I wonder if my lfs would special order for me, i should go check. I have never asked. Hope they still have those horsefaced loaches for you when you can get them.

I fear going to the LFS for that reason, but I rarely see loaches in the shops I goto though.

Just say no.......

So hard to do

I have some Queens coming next week from my LFS. I found one that asks me now when he orders if I want any on his list. I thought my last one was working with me but he never got anything I asked for. This Store has done very well with customer service this past two weeks, it specializes in fish and is looking for Robusto for me which I need and have not seen for years...... So much for saying no.........

This seems to be the way to get loaches for many of us.
Thank goodness for those kind of stores.
By the way Keith, was that you who stopped in Aquarium World in Lafayette, Indiana a few months ago?
I know it was someone from Illinois who posts on LOL.

Very funny this would be brought up today of all days. I was on the phone with woman who owns LFS and she told me that she can order other loaches if I'm interested.. oh the temptation.. she mentioned several botia .. I do remember her saying specifically zippers and yo yo's.
So this brings me to a question.. are there any loaches that can peacefully co-habitate with dojos in a cool water tank.. it's 55 gal and 4 foot long.. or do I not have enough room? The dither fish in there are danios (approx 8 or 9 of them).
(I say "cool" water and not cold because it being in my livingroom I don't think it would ever get below 65 F even when the AC is on.)

Tinman- I'm glad that you enjoy our suffering.
Jim- Yes, I was at Aquarium world. When talking to the people there, they asked how it was that I had come from Illinois to visit their shop. I explained that you had told me about them. They said that explained why I was interested in loaches.

You guys are eeeeeeeeevvvviiiiiillllllllll!!!
I got me some khulis and more kubs.
Did I mention I love kubs? I love kubs!
I can see it now.
Loach addiction support group:
me: "Hi, my name is Rocco. I started collecting loaches ten years ago."
moderator: "Thats a good start Rocco, how many loaches do you have?"
me [nervous, shifty eyes] "I have managed to collect all species, each one has a tank of its own with a setup matching as close as possible to it's natural habitat."
moderator and other members (jaws drop)
But then again, in the race to get as many loach species as possible, I think Graeme and Emma are in the lead. Give me ten years and you'll all be flying to Asia's one and only loach aquarium-museum.
but first I must find evidence of a paleo loach.
