just to get the mouths watering,
i'll be posting tomorrow a few pics of two fish i picked up recently,
they were exported from hongkong, one we have a good idea what it is, andy and i think it's a fish called Barbatula hingi, the other fish ressembles a type of homeloptera.
has that got them gums watering yet.
cheers
mick
btw, ive had a look at the fish in the species list and neither are there

Photobucket is working fine now!
Barbatula hingi and
Homaloptera hingi are synonyms of the
Schistura hingi (i thinks). Maybe the other one is a
Oreonectes platycephalus which looks like a
Homaloptera sp.
This sounds interesting.

here's the next lot
this is the barbatula hingi, we think.
the shots of the homaloptera type that i put on first, on the first pic that
glowing spot behind the dorsal, can be seen with the eye, it was'nt the camera picking it up.
andy and i think it could be for recognition in the wild, what do you think.?

Graeme, I'm getting this as
Oreonectes platycephalus:
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/species ... tycephalus
Kind of more
Schistura like if that pic is correct.
I got this pic on
Vanmanenia lineata. Certainly similar and mainland Chinese. Can't get the page to come up though.
Here's a good Fishbase page:

Both Loaches are gorgeous!!
Looks like we will have to
track these chaps down for the real names and then add them into the Loach index!

I agree with you Martin with the first one.
Andy, which book is the
Barbatula Hingi in?

The first one looks more like a Crossostoma (now Formosania) to me, based on the number, size, and placement of barbels (might be easier if we had a photo from underneath). If it is a Formosania, it may be F. davidi or stigmata? Oreonectes platycephalus doesnt have a forked tail.
I'll see what I can do on the next one now. The image in F W F Central Vietnam shows what they say is Schistura hingi, and it isnt the same fish as the one shown here. I'll do some more checking, I think I have seen it before. Schistura fasciolata (of which some say hingi is a synonym)?

hi steve
you don't ask for much do you bud.
here's the best i could do as i don't have a show tank with a clear base,
there's also a headon shot if that helps.
as far as the shistura is concerned , i have seen a pic on fishbase and another two on mr trees site and they seem to have too many bars,
but it could be as both fish are still juveniles.
both about 1.5 inches TL.
cheers

I love that hilly. I agree with The Dark One that it looks like a Crossostoma (now Formosania). I have heard that they are a bit more aggressive than other hillstreams and more in line with some of the schisturas.
