I was considering adding a school of zebras to a Discus tank. What do you think? Any idea where I could find a school of 6 to 12?

Loaches and Discus do not mix. Flow requirements differ greatly. It would be pretty but not practical. Discus do much better with Discus and my success with them which was great was in a specie specific enviroment which is low flow, hot and soft as oppposed to the flow rate required by Loaches .

In addition to what Tinman said, Loaches (especially the Botia genus which Striatas are a member) are very curious fish. They may find your Discus very interesting and inadvertently harass them. They don't do this out of agression, simply curiosity.

And I will add that the curiousity more often than not takes place overnight when the loaches are at their most active, and when the discus will be resting. This will spook them and result in no end of stress. Not a good combination IMO.

I'm glad I came over here to post. These were suggested by a so called Discus Expert. I have Eight Discus that I am getting ready to move to a planted 110 tall tank. I will be adding two more Discus soon, but thought I would something different to mix it up. I ususally only keep them by themselves.

Thanks for all the information.

Smart move on your part ziggy2. 8)

Loaches also prefer a tank with a larger footprint, rather than depth. They shoot around a lot.

Are you planning to breed your discus? Got any pics to put up over on the freshwater forum? We haven't had any cool discus pics for a long time. . .

Does this answer your question? I didn't know if you already read it and didn't understand.

Hey ziggy, can you get them uploaded to photobucket? If not, I'll send you a pm and you can email them to me and I'll put them up for you.

I know. It's a pita, but it's a bandwidth issue, really. 8)

Once you get them on photobucket, all you have to do is click on the IMG tag at the bottom of your photo, come here and open a post, then right click/paste the code into your post.

Preview to make sure it shows up, and voila!

shot me a PM and I'll send them to you. I can not get them to upload. Don't really understand it. I'm on a T-1 line. I don't usually have a bandwidth issue. It might be the firewall.
