Hello,

Me again ! Another quick question - im considering buying a Juwel Rio 125 tank, but have heard stories of Kuhlis being particularly attatracted to the filter in these tanks, actually getting sucked in and mashed. Im keen on this tank but my tank will be focusing on Loaches, esp Kuhlis so im wondering if anyone else here has encountered this problem ? Il try a Fluval Roma as plan b.

Thanks.

Stephen

I don't know anything about that kind of filter, but putting a filter sponge or cover over the intake will keep kuhli's out...my kuhlis go inside my filter all the time to play, but they go in the output part

Hi Stephen,

Jewel filters (built in to their tanks, for those who aren't familiar with this brand) really aren't the most efficient anyway. I would get the Fluval tank so that you can add an external filter and cover the inlet with a small sponge to stop the kuhlis getting in. This will also free up more tank space if the filter is outside.

they will get into the filter intake, especially when they are smaller. Mine did and got a nice gash over the eye for his efforts. My intake has a very flexible screen/cover on it, so I used some fishing line and tied around it. this constricted the middle and made the slots too narrow for the kuhli to fit through, which solved the problem.

This won't clog like a sponge will :)
