x-mass upgraids for my kuhlis

while with my family for Christmas, my aunt offered to let me use her kiln for making things for my fish tank! I want to make a connected stack of pot like things that my kuhlis can play/hide/do whatever they do, in.
If there's any advice that people have on things like how big kuhlis like there hidy holes, or things I should keep in mind while making home made aquarium pieces, I would be very happy to hear it. Should it be glazed? From what I understand, clay pots and the like are not harmful to fish.
I also question if I could afford more kuhlis in my tank. What kind of bio footprint do kuhlis have? my impression from mine are that they are not very dirty or space intense.
I have a 25 gallon (U.S.) with 9 hangeli's rasbora, one betta (female), 3 pangio loaches, some trumpet snales, 5 shrimp (3 ghost and 2 amano). It's planted, with filtration for a 30 gallon. I do weekly water changes, sometimes twice weekly.
I was also entertaining the thought of a pair of honey gouramis, since there is a lack of focal point in the tank (a bit of day time color would liven things up).
thoughts? concerns? advice? criticisms? I would love to hear it.
