For several reasons I had to be out of town for a week before Xmas.

I thought that I had my "away keepers" trained up.

No joy! I lost all of my Sewellia lineolata, two very nice German Koi angels and a few shrimp.

I obviously do not have the experience to "deal with hill stream loaches" but I very much enjoy my Yoyos and believe that I would enjoy some nice loaches in lieu of some nice Plecos.

I have a 110G-30" deep-acrylic bow front- a wet/dry filtration system (with a ton of biological filtration media). This tank is a planted community tank.

I also have 2 5G tanks with very rudimentary filtration but I perform a 90% WC daily from my main tank (one of these tanks I was using to grow out the Sewellia lineolata).

The main tank has a wet/dry filtration system with
1) a "ton" of biological filtration media in the first chamber as well as the second chamber;
2) aeration of the biological filtration media in both chambers;
3) plants in the second chamber of the sump with MH lighting.

The water parameters are
1) Nitrates typically less than 15 and
2) Gh typically less than 5.

Any input here would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your losses. What an unpleasant gift for the holidays.

What remains in the 110 tank? What was the cause of the deaths, if you know?

As for your ideas for new inhabitants, the pangio might not like the current level that the other fish would prefer. I'll let others chime in on that, since I don't have any pangios myself.

If you get the V. maassi I'm going to be green with envy. I've wanted some for years (literally!) but haven't had the nerve to order them online.

Frank has an excellent reputation for his fish, btw.

TY for the sympathies.

I do not believe that the 110G was the cause.

Although I perform approximately 10% daily WCs I believe that the 110G could support itself for several months due to the quantity of biological filtration media in the sump and the plants in the tank and sump.

I believe (am really 99.99% certain) the cause of death was not appropriately "training up" my "away keepers".

Blackline Kuhli Loach
Pangio anguillaris
are "what you are talking about" but Frank is out of these (unfortunately as these are very, very pretty fish).

These are very, very pretty fish but Emma's treatise indicates:
Water parameters: Blackwater. pH: 6.0-6.8. Hardness: Soft. Max dH: 8.
Temperature: 72ºF to 79ºF (22-26°C)
and I unfortunately do not have Blackwater.
Do you or Emma reckon that they will be "happy fishies" in clear pristine water?
(I am also presuming that Emma's dH is our Kh or Gh).

My bristlenose plecos are "about ready" to move from the acclimation/partial grow out tank to the main tank.

My "away keepers" now know that "bad things happen" without daily WC's of the two 5G tanks.

I am afraid to try more Sewellia lineolata due to the meltdown while I was away.

What do yall think?

Folks:

I was doing very good with the the Sewellia's in a 5G tank with plenty of water movement

They were really growing and showed some breeding signs and I was anticipating putting them in my main tank.

Alas I had not appropriately trained up my away keepers.

I have not have any trouble raising Yoyo's but do you believe that the Schistura corica would be easier to raise than the Sewellias?

If you read the notes on the corica species profile you'll see they are quite territorial and best kept as singles. If you're after breeding them, they might not be the best choice.

I sure think I would want to give the Sewellias a try again.
They are such attractive and interesting fish and certainly could be spawned.

(BTW Shari I did review the profile for water parameters but did not read all of it. I will know better the next time).

When we have a warm spell I will order the Sewellias and try them again.

Hi jones57742,
I recently (~2 months ago) got a single ~1.5" Vaillantella maassi
from Frank's (and a bunch of other stuff). This guy is the biggest hider!
I was convinced that he somehow got out of the QT after not seeing him
for two weeks until I moved everything around. He's been in the main tank
with yo-yos, Khulis and tiger barbs for a bit over a month now, and I haven't
seen him yet Hope he's alright. When I put the khulis in there, they only took about a week to get over their shyness.
