OOH! I would have initially thought
Syncrossus hymenophysa but I think there's a good chance this could be
Syncrossus reversa. Reason being the relationship in width of the base body colour vs the stripe width.

Hi Jayne,
That's an excellent find!
Could you estimate it's size? It does appear to fit the description for
S. reversa (very very rare in the trade) but as we know with the Laos yellow tigers,
Syncrossus are capable of major pattern and colour changes from juvenile to adult. More pics would be great.

Sorry to be a Party pooper Martin and Emma, but it looks like the Syncrossus hymenophysa. I've had my juveniles from the size of 1. 5 inches and this looks like the trade colours for them. Plus i don't see the butterfly shaped caudal fin.
Lovely specimen though!

This is why I was a little cautious with my reply - just look how the Laos loaches have changed over the past few months! Did your
S. hymenophysa youngsters display the red dorsal fin though, Graeme? Any pics? I've received some small
S. hymenophysa in the past, which didn't look much different from the adults.
Also, did your juvies have a dorsal spot?
