What is the average length of Kuhli loach? This site says 3 1/2 inches but it seems I have seen pictures of longer ones.

It will very from species to species. There are about 60 species in the Pangio genus, I think. Most of them top out at 3 to 4 inches but some species and older specimens may exceed that.
If you find fish advertised as "kuhli" loaches that are considerably longer they are probably a different type of loach. Gold dojos are sometimes sold as gold kuhlis and will get considerably larger. This unfortunate practice leads to improper care for unexperianced aquarists. Dojos are cool water fish and generally don't flourish in tropical tanks.

I think that while the size and longevity and variation of Kuhlis is somthing to watch for and be in awe of... Most species reach a length of 3 - 4 inches. At just over four inches, my P. myersis are thicker than they might be long. Think of them as growing bulkier, not longer. Once the length is attained, they just get meatier.
