I had a drive over to Pier Aquatics on Friday and picked up 6 of what I can only describe as the biggest B. kubotai I have ever seen, Mick told me they were big but I must have got some funny looks stood in front of the tank drooling

These photos do not do the fish justice and the biggest two are just nudging 6" total length.




They are truely stunning fish and have settled well with the histies and emperors, there were a few scuffles to start with but after about an hour everything calmed down.

I also got:

4x nemacheilus rupelli




6x Schistura balteata



2x Panda Garra - 4"+




4x Puntius denisonii (2 didnt make the journey home )


I also got 6 Danio Maegahalayensis but so far they have proved nigh on impossible to photograph.

Nice Kubs MD. How are they settling in?

Do they all apear to be the same regional variant?

The photos look like the "Melanistic" type as shown in the photo gallery on LOL.

Also they look similar to Martins angry Kub.

great pics Mark, youve caught the rupelli perfect and the kubs, there's not a lot you can say to give them the justice they deserve.
told you they was big though.
i'm glad all the fish settled down well mate.
the meg's ive only ever got one decent pic of them and that was in a show tank.

Those Botia kubotai are truly amazing!

(PS: I still haven't been able to capture some decent pictures of them Yasuhikotakia caudipunctata you fetched back for me... I'll post some pictures though.)

Very nice! Will be interesting to hear how those new giant B. kubotai interact with your existing loaches.

I once had 8 around this size until something ran through my tank and I lost all of them.

The biggest male now seems to be boss of the tank, the kubotais havent shown any interest in the Clowns what so ever and apart from a few nudges here and there the Histies and Emperors dont bother the Clowns either.

The Histies pretty much bossed the emperors but now the big Kubotai seems to have taken over after a few scuffles, all seems nice and calm now but how long that will last I dont know.

i pulled out a pic that was taken at pier when i bought mine, the big fish in the pic is the one that came home with me.

just to show Graeme what he missed out on.

Oh stop it you guys are making me so jealous. I don't get any loaches at all like that here.

Is it just me or do these big guys seem to have longer snouts than the usual?

Shari, I was thinking the same. Reminds me of the male/female difference we noted with the Emperor Botia.

I noticed it straight away and tried to pick out 3 male and 3 female going by what I have noticed with the Emperors, now that I have had a good look at them in the tank I am sure that I have managed the 3 males and 3 females. The histrionicas that I have have exactly the same long snouts and fleshy lips in males and more rounded snouts and less fleshy lips in the females.
