I just picked up one of these that was a contaminant in a shipment of M. triangularis.
Can anyone relate their experiences with this species?

In my experience they can be quite territorial with one another, although I think this is dependant on a lot of factors such as tank size, visual barriers, number of fish etc. However, I've had a pair (I believe male and female) in a small tank I set up to try and get them to breed for about a year now and although they don't spend any time being social with each other, they do seem to tolerate each other when they come across one another. No sign of any breeding despite my best efforts though. They really seem to enjoy good current and will feed on most aquarium fare. One of the only downsides I find with this beautiful species is that they are very shy and will hide at the slightest movement outside the tank.

This guy seems similar in behavior to M. triangularis except maybe just a bit more mellow.

Jim, going from memory this fish is very similar to the usual triangularis it's not a sociable creature.
i think i had roughly about 10 or 12 of them in a 6 foot tank but it was very rare to see any of them together.

Are you certain its a Guntheri ? there is a very similar fish called M. Pulchellus , i once picked some of these up from Triangularis , they look very similar to Guntheri but dont seem as feisty ! although in fairness Guntheri arent too bad as they dont seem to grow as large as Triangularis !

I have never seen M. pulchellus so I can't be for sure.
