What they call Borneo Scooters here in Perth...

Got these at City Farmers, where they think that one label that says "Rainbows" suffices for anything from Madagascar to Boesemani and Parkinsoni, so you have to ID everything yourself.

My best guess is Gastromyzon stellatus.

Which shop? I've never seen those around here.

City Farmers in Wembley, but I've also seen them at Vebas and Aquotix.

Not sure where 'way down South' is, note that I'm in Perth, Western Australia

I'd better get my skates on. I was at Vebas on Saturday and didn't spot any scooters at all. Thanks for the heads up.

My info is at least a month old, that's when I was last there.

These guys pop up reasonably often though all over. Or something pretty much like them, the suppliers never have any idea which species they are.

Nice fish!
I think you might have G. scitulus.
There are often many different species mixed in together in Gastro shipments so give everything a good look.

They're superb little guys. I would love some in my hillie tank. Hi Jim - how goes it. I gather you are becoming famous as a guest speaker nowadays. Congrats!

I'm doing fine, Bob.
I wouldn't say famous, but I do a few speaking gigs now and then.
I hope things are going well for you.

Yes I agree it looks more like the pics of scitulus.

I have 7 of them, bought in two batches, I guess I would have to take a macro shot of every one to know for sure whether they were all the same.

Apart from Basil, things are ok. Still no change, she still eats like a pig but doesn't put on weight. 4 flubendazole treatments haven't even done the trick.

I haven't been to Wembley Path, but Vebas, Aquotix and another City Farmers (Willetton) were all no goes. Curses!

Bob; I hope Basil improves. You know we all love her here.

theonetruepath; You might want to also look at G. ctenocephalus. I have looked again at your pics and noticed the size of the barbels around the mouth. They protrude quite a bit which is more typical of ctenocephalus. Check out the profiles and pics in the species index for both species.

Not sure... the fins might be a bit different. These guys don't seem to stretch out their fins very much, but you can just about see them in this shot, It could be an age thing, but I think ctenocephalus seems to have bigger blue spots on the dorsal.

Bob D: I checked Wembley City Farmers, nothing at the moment. And they've stopped getting requests in.

Thanks for checking Path, much appreciated. I see your fish have lightened up a little. I am amazed at the beautiful black in the early pics. Beautiful little guys.
