Hey fellow loach fans, I have a question about stocking a 90G tank. My husband bought me a new 90G tank, stand, glass top/light and Fluval 405 canister filter. I already keep a 60G cold water tank with dojos. I also have a 45G with khulis and striatas.

What kind of loaches can I keep in a 90G comfortably. I was hoping to have at least two different schoals of 2 types. I am thinking Botia Kubotai and Botia Dario. Will this work?

Will one group be too nippy at the other? Will I have enough room to keep them both and not be over stocked?

Both species will work well. I don't see how both will nip to death. You have enough room to keep a small group of each species.

I'm just starting up my own tank, which is roughly the same size, and I had the same idea to start with. Two groups of Botia species.
I have changed my mind on that. I now want one good group of about eight B. histrionica. I already have the dithers in my tank, 15 Danio kyathit and I'm thinking about getting one C. siamensis (siamese algae eater) and maybe a pleco. (I wanted five siamese algae eaters, but they grow too big for my tank and you can't keep two or three due to their hierarchical structure.)
This way I'll have a somewhat understocked tank, but I think it will benefit the behavior of the fish.

These are just my thoughts. This is my first tank and I have a bit of a "purist" philosophy where I want to try and get the fish to show their most natural behavior possible. I'm pretty sure though it will work just fine with two groups. At least that's what the people here told me in the beginning.

i would go with the two species youve selected, both sp will compliment each other.
as far as nipping i don't see any problem as neither are that quarrelsome.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I really love the idea of the 2 different species (Dario & Kubotai). I was hopeing that they would not cause a ruckus with eachother, but since they are realitivly peaceful, I feel a bit more confident about the mixing of the two now.

Always better to double check than have a problem down the road.

As soon as I am cycled (going to silent cycle with plants) and start adding my fish I'll post some pics. So....I guess by the time it's ready to show, it will be about June.
