Very sick clown loach

Post by shiba » Thu Jun 19, 2008 4:18 am

I hope you can help me!
My loach has large faint white patches on him.
He has had them before and I have always treated with malachite green.
This infestation seems different as it won't budge.
The LFS told me to use antibiotics, no improvement. The loach is very distressed and just hides in his log.

WE've lost, in the last 3 months, a gourami (who was very old) and then a large angel fish. The angel fish seemd to react to being moved briefly to a smaller tank, and died very quickly. But there were some scales missing and bits hanging off.

The large pleco in the tank with the loach is fine, and has no white bits etc.
I am wondering if the stress of being moved out of, then back into, his tank started it all. But he seemed to recoved and be his normal active self.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi shiba,

Sorry to hear about your clown loach.

Could you test your tank water and tell us what results you get for ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte & pH please.

Also, any other information you can give us such as tank size, filtration, maintenance regime (size & frequency of water changes etc), how long the tank has been set up for, what other fish are in the tank etc, will also help to build up a picture of what might be happening.

If there is any chance you could provide a photograph (I realise this might be difficult) that would help too. Also, do you know the name of the treatment the LFS recommended that you use?
