hillstream tank update

Post by MikeBlackett » Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:36 am

Hi everyone,

Just thought id give an update on how my hillstream set up is going.

I have splashed out on a Tetratec Ex1200 external filter. Now with the jewel compact pump (600lph) the Seio flow head (600lph) and the 1200lph external its certainly no mill pond. I fear the flow may be a bit chaotic with no manifold system. I have all the pump outputs facing the same direction down the tank. I get a circular flow pattern travelling down the tank (horizontally) in the upper waters then it hits the side glass and doubles back to end up where it started (and hopefully not miss out the jewel filter intake too much). I have the intake for the external at the opposite end.

After some thinking i have decided that my tank is a sharp bend in a hillstream, rather than unidirectional flow! Although my next tank will be experimenting with a manifold. Has anyone ever had the problem of the tubing becoming clogged after long periods of time? But i suppose if the powerhead is powerful enough it will be constantly clear?

so here the tank

Your tank looks nice and clean :)
I have that same none unidirectional flow
Still the Hillies very much enjoy the setup so far, 400 lph internal and a 500 lph JBL proflow mini 600
Offcourse i,d love to build me a tank with manifold and the works,
alas no space here for a 3rd tank.
