hi all, i've read the profile on this fish, but would like to hear personal experiences with this species.
i struck lucky at my lfs which rarely gets any decent fish until yesterday that is, they had a lone S lineolata and this fish, i got the two for £8 which i'm sure is pretty cheap.

ps, never kept this species before.

I've got 5 of these (I think they are anyway, to be honest I think they are perhaps B.levereti but still..) in my small river tank. They push the G.scitulus round somewhat but are like most other Hillstreams. They tend to stick to certain areas in the tank and have their own main territory but very often roam about at random. I got mine from an online dealer and got 6 for £14.50 plus delivery.. They go nuts for frozen bloodworm and some Tetra Prima type granules and even chase my Danios and Schistura away at feeding time.

Worth adding imo.

I am down to one now,a large 2.75" specimen that I have had for about 7 years.I have always had this species since I began keeping loaches. They tend to be a bit reclusive, except at feeding time and will often dominate the feeding area. Mine is subordinate to the slightly larger male sewellia that is in the same tank, though.
Otherwise, it will often chase the smaller gastromyzons and the similar sized Sinogastromyzon around a bit, particularly when food is present.
Mine will eat pelleted foods, brine shrimp, and some algae, but goes particularly nuts over bloodworms.

cheers lads, i've housed it with the Sewelia's as they are roughly the same size as it.
i've not been looking for them but i think they are fairly rare in the shops, but can always see cheni everywhere, so i was quite pleased with myself for spotting it .

now i need to find some more

i have 9 of these as they are really common out here
bought a big (2.3') male just 3 days ago and they had several more
Getting ahold of any other hillstream species is a tedious quest though

In my experience they are very strong fish. Their competition for a spot in the current is fierce, Generally the females are stronger, and they tend to get along better. (less competition/shoaling together in pairs or trios)
Males are more fierce but generally a bit smaller.
Other fish don,t really bother them unless it,s one of my Pseudogastromyzon's, then it,ll be a joust for rockspots
In the near future i,m gonna build a 5ft rivertank purely for
Beaufortia sp, Sewellia Lineolata and 2 Panaque L191

thanks for the thread Michael, i'll have to get more of them.
i know Sewelia are very territorial when it comes to their own space.
i'll have to keep on studying the sex differences.
