Some Recent Shots

Post by Bully » Sat Aug 09, 2008 3:58 pm

Some recent shots of my Sids. Not all of them though, there's 13 in the tank altogether, but I can never get a photo of them all together. There's a shot or two of my B. striata too, but they tend to be a lot more camera shy :)

My fattest Sid about 2 weeks ago.....

....and here she is today....

Image

....and another of her today, are those sensory pores that are running from the top of her mouth to just under her eye?

Image

...and another. This one is blurred, but it gives a better indication of how fat she really is :)

Image

Here's one of another Sid that has excavated a little "nest" for itself, it's made a rather neat little den between the bogwood and eggcrate base. I found this interesting as I wasn't aware they did this. I don't link it to any breeding behaviour though, as this particular loach is nowhere near one of the fattest :?

My fattest striata...

A waif of a striata that I picked up last week, this particular batch had some serious bad luck, too many packed into the bag it would seem, and many of them didn't make it :( I've watched the survivors over the last 7-8 weeks and decided I had to have this particular one...

...8 days on and he's starting to put on some weight, and he's taking his place with the other striata.

Curiously, as I write this, the tank is a hot bed of activity, there are loaches everywhere and I've observed at least 5 of the sids "shadowing"; mostly other sids, but some of the striata as well. I've got one particular sid who's been doing a fair bit of shadowing recently, but I've never had 5 at a time doing it! Well it's lights out for them in a few minutes so that might just calm them all down :)

Beautiful Sids! That mamma is fat!! I love the markings on the new striata too, almost looks like it has some almorae in it. Looks much beter in the second pic.

A good looking bunch! I keep sids & striatas together too, never seen the sensory pores though, neat!

Great pics, Bully! 8) Your fish look in fabulous condition. I'm hoping you'll let us permanently host a couple of the Y. sidthimunki shots in the photo gallery of that species, if that's ok with you? If so, please PM me with your full name so that I can credit the shots to you.

That's a shame, they make for excellent aquarium inhabitants :)
