Sexual Dimorphismin Botia Kubotai

Post by Botia Robert » Thu Aug 14, 2008 1:17 am

I was interested if anyone knew how to identify male and female Botia Kubotai?

My Kubs are probably too young (2" average) to distinguish between male and female but I was curious.

Some observations,

One Kub in particular is very "tall" from the dorsal fin to the belly.

A few have a shorter and rounder head. A few have a (slightly) longer snout.

I thought I saw a couple with a slight pink tinge on thier lips.

I wonder if there are any parrallels with Botia Almorhae or Botia Histrionica in identifing sexual dimorphism?

I got some very large Kubotai a while back as did Mick and we noticed the same characteristics that I had already noticed in the Emperor Botia,

Spot on, it seems like the males will have a longer snout while the females are more rounded and shorter, also the lips do seem quite a bit bigger and more defined in the males than the females.

I have noticed very similar distinguishing features among my almorhae and histrionica :)
