Hi, was just reading Mike's post on Schistura pridii and was shocked to see that 60 of these loaches are for sale on this website:

There's absolutely no mention of the fact they're endangered, not to mention the fact there are no details on care, requirements etc...

I noticed Emma said she'd rescued a few in the hope of breeding them, could anybody do something similar for these guys? It would be a shame to see them go to an inexperienced fish keeper

jeez, thats a shame. I wonder what can be done to stop this!

lissy, have you seen what price this fish runs at for one to do a breeding program you would need a decent sized number of this fish.
that is the one reason that most people who have a tank will leave them in the dealers tank unless they're loaded.
i know of two people on this site that have a decent number of this fish in the hope that they will spawn them.
sods law is it's a saleable fish to the loach keeping community.

I had seen that and had considered purchasing another 10 to go with the lot I already have, but then you are faced with the problem that if these are all bought up at a fast rate, it is only going to show Wildwoods that there is a market to sell this species and so they will probably order more in, which is not what anyone here wants Im sure.

Possibly if they are there in a few months time one will consider, but at the moment I don't think it will do those individuals who have not been exported yet any good-its a sad reality.

Seems like you can't win either way Buy them and encourage the market or leave them with the chance that they'll go someone without the least idea how vulnerable they are! Just seems such a shame. Mike, we'll just have to hope the high price puts people off for the mean time.

These are coming from only one supplier and I have directed him to the species info page on LOL before now, and also explained the situation in a lengthy but polite email to him. And although it is happening infrequently, unfortunately it does seem that the collection of this rare species is continuing.

Its a pity, I suppose the only good thing is that no one that doesn't really know what they are doing is going to willingly pay £14 for a fish thats a little over an inch, although Wildwoods had them at £22ish last year when I was going to get my V.maassi so there has been a price drop. Perhaps that is maybe the reason they are being offered on tff avaliable for home shipping now at a lower price than last year... they just want rid of them as demand is not great in just the shop for them? Or do the fishermen have them in good enough supply to lower prices shops are buying them in at-I would like to think its the first of the two although there is an unfortunate feeling that it may be the second

If my memory serves me right on petfrd.com this fish was revered in myanamar and the possibility of it being exported was supposed to be non existant, but they're being shipped?.

I've seen this loach at least on two stocklists of wholesalers in Germany. Actually I know of one dealer who has them in stock.

yes i know Thomas but they could have been by the same exporter though, this fish eventually will go worldewide.
i saw a courtship behavior in the ones ive got but alas no eggs or fry were seen.
