I have a temperature alarm on my main tanks. It has helped me on a few occasions.

I picked up a couple Hydor 150 Watt heaters on clearance for $10 each this spring. First time I have purchased a new heater since all of the others were part of used setups people were selling or giving away. I'm very happy with them. They are shock resistant and they are keeping everything warm just fine. Obviously this says nothing about how long they will last, but so far so good.greenbaron wrote:Ashleigh, how are the fish doing?
Heaters.......... grrrrrrrrr
I have just put a new one in my tank and it seems impossible to get it settled down to a particular setting. Leads me to ask, does anyone out there make a decent heater? I don't think in all my years of fishkeeping I've ever bought the same one twice. Thinking of trying yet another one right now, since I don't currently have a back-up in storage... The one with the external controller is starting to look really good to me
Thanks for askingAshleigh, how are the fish doing?
greenbaron wrote:I will look at all suggestions- I'm open to anything at this point! This one I just installed was a back-up I purchased some years ago, the first one that actually had a temperature setting on it (as opposed to an arbitrary index that indicated just higher or lower). I thought it would be so neat to just set the temp and stick it in there! Ha. Set to 81F, by that evening it was 82.5. Turned it down, kept coming on. Finally set it to 78F, then it held 80.5 for a few hours. Then started creeping down. So now it's set to 79, and I have 81.3. PITA...
It's not that I don't have enough wattage either. 250W in a 75gal, should be good to go.
Will keep tryin'
I think this lot are just a very hardy group-they stuck a move from Ireland to Wales spending 6-8hrs in transport and then another several hrs before their tank was setup, and then 3 house moves in the last two years. Not a death or breakout of disease/parasites related to any of the moves, not that its good to move them around, but they cope amazingly wellGlad your guys are hangin', probably due to their very good condition to start with..
