If any of my fish dont seem interested I have tried either Bloodworm pellets or Shrimp pellets and eventually they d start picking at them and after a while they do get the confidence to see pellets as food.

It took a while but with perseverance I got my histrionicas, emperors and kubotai taking pellets within weeks this way.

I dont know if I am right but I have found that the higher the protein and oil content of the pellet the more likely they are to eat them.

I have a clown that won't eat pellets or flake or anything processed. It's not going to change either. I just have to feed it whole foods like shrimp, bloodworms, clams, veggies.

My other clowns are pigs and will eat about anything though.

Just this week I started feeding the clowns floating pond pellets. Reason I'm trying them is that I can get 3# bags of them for only $4 at my LFS. The brand name pellet foods were costing me too much money. Like Sinking Carnivore Pellets cost about $12 for only 2.6 oz.

The clowns are liking these floating pellets.
Now they are a little more active and sometimes swim in the upper levels of the tank searching for them.

Chen, did you try them on the Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets yet? Those seem to get most bottom dwellers interested in taking pellets of most types.

wow, that's quite a mark-up. i get them for half that from That Fish Place. Which means they can probably be had for even cheaper from other mail order sources... :?

Read the ingredients in the foods. Fish meal and grains are the poorest sorts of foods, and whether the fish will eat them or not, there is not as good nutrition in them as in foods made from whole fish, shellfish and algae.
Read the label on the Omega One products, for example. Check out the Spectrum product line.

Agree with the NLS, mine go crazy over it.

lfs had omegaone shrimp pellets and veggie rounds so i picked those up... thatfishplace carries the NLISpectrum line, so i'll get some of that with my next order.
shrimp pellets were gobbled up, they weren't into the veggie round yesterday but they've been getting too much good fresh stuff lately to go for that right now anyway!
thanks for the referrels. there are so many brands out there, it's hard to find the diamonds in the rough without some hints!

My Clowns love the Omega One sinking shrimp pellets. I just bought some Hikari Carnivore pellets and they seem to like those as well.
