I just picked up 6 loaches at our local club meeting, but I have no idea what they are. Has anyone heard of a dwarf banded loach? perhaps from India?

They're about 1 - 1.5 inches total length.

sorry for the blurry - these guys won't sit still! I'll try again tomorrow.

Maybe schistura savona? The fins don't look right to me though, and the stripes are a little more pronounced on my guys.

Thanks - I'm looking forward to hearing what you all think!

Hi,

yes, you have Schistura savona. With a length of 1,5 inch they should not be grow anymore. Or only a little bit.
these guys won't sit still
yes, they are very active. I had them for several years. :)

Bye,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas! Do you think these would get on well with y. sidthimunkis? I have decent flow in that tank, but I also have a powerhead I could add for more movement.

I also bought 6 of these at my local club auction last April. I didn't know what they were(Thomas and others identified them for me) and they were labeled as "bicolor botia". They are living in my river tank and don't seem to bother any of the other fish. I have 2 very gravid females at the moment but no fry have appeared as of yet. They are voracious feeders!

plaaya, I dug through and found your post about the savona. They do look exactly like mine, and I'm so excited about them now!

I was very nervous about buying them without knowing what they were, but it sounds like I made a good decision.

Sorry, I don't know much about Y. sidthimunkis, so I can't give you any hints.

Hi Andy, second sorry, I even don't know the species Siikmiensis

But I can say that the behaviour is very similar two the small Nemacheilus ornatus. And both species will fit very good together. Maybe the savona is a little bit more shy than the N. ornatus. They are sweet little loaches, and if I find them again in the trade i could imagine that I buy a group of them again.

Wish you fun with it :)

Thomas
