I've had that happen. Learned the hard way that the g-tank needs a lid. And seen it live too, there are also some pics and vids of it posted here. It's quite amazing they can do it and the surface doesn't even need to be flat.

Great video!
I had the same thing happen with the first batch of gastros I got. When I was acclimating them using a tank similar to the one in the video, I had several of them escape. All survived fortunately.

Hillstream tanks definitely need a return lip around the inner top. Another species this is imperative for is Garra flavatra during their initial settling in phase.

I have seen this also at Schistura. I've take new Schistura in a bucket to align the water parameters and some climb up the bucket out of the water. I put a big book onto the bucket because I'm afraid they could break out.
But in my tank they never do this again.

I agree with Martinabout G. flavatra , I think those and Spiney eels are contenders for the likely candidates .
I dont know why tank makers bother with the wire holes anymore ? I'd prefer a full lip around top of tank , most heaters and filters come with a plug , so the holes just serve as escape holes for adventurous fish !

To tell the truth, that Youtube movie is what I took .
It has been preceded when thinking the introduction sooner or later.
They came in April this year.
It of those three Sinogastromyzon puliensis is alive and well now. They seem to like my tank, and, at present, have not escaped.
This time, I will introduce four photographs of S. puliensis.
I am keeping two kinds of Sinogastromyzon. There is Sinogastromyzon.wui, too.
I will collectively introduce both one of these days.
(1) exceeded it a little

(2) Escape success!.......?

(3) It seems to be comfortable.

(4) Many friends? were able also to do.
