New kuhlis

I didn't want kuhlis but now I'm wondering why. I saw some last week that weren't black (stores around here are swarming with black ones but I have so many black fish already), so I went back today and picked up the three biggest, darkest ones. Now I'm in love. How did I even hesitate? They're in that 20 gallon I set up a couple weeks ago. I ended up passing on the African Ground Tetras. They still had some but there were some VERY sick moonlight gouramis in the tank with them. Maybe if they make it through, I'll still add some to the tank, but we'll see. I'm not sure how they would get along with the kuhlis but I don't forsee any problems. But without further delay, one of my new sweeties.

Hes lovely! I've been looking for one of these guys, but haven't found any. I've seen golden and spotted dojos, horsefaced, and black kuhlis. What exact species is your striped beauty?

Bubbaspock, I am not the kuhli expert here, but I think it is what fishbase would call Pangio myersi. But I am not sure because they are already longer than 6.7 cm. So maybe someone else can help answer that one. Fishbase could be wrong on the size. A page on LOL quotes them as growing to 4 inches, which is 10cm.

These three have really been entertaining me with their antics. Already, they have made themselves comfortable, and my husband, who isn't normally very interested in my fish, was actually laughing at one of them last night while it was laying in the water sprite. He said it looked like a sock the way it was draped so carelessly. I thought it looked pretty comfortable. I should have taken a picture.

I wouldn't totally trust FishBase, Tammy. It changes all the time with peoples updates and whatnot.

Pangio myersi they are.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought so, then I saw that size on fishbase and thought "whaaat?".

Very much Myersi: regular stripes plus nice orange. Does not mean that your other kuhlis are too.

Great to see you discover kuhlis...

*Probably* a female too; wait till it fattens.

Note: most Myersi are around 3" and you usually buy adults.
