Hi,

Today I have seen this:

This is one of my three Cobitis_sp_china. If it goes bad, I've no male, only three female. I don't see any difference between their pectoral fins. My last hope: one has a similar length as the gravid female but is more slender. And I can't see any eggs inside (at this time).

At this time the new fishes are in quarantaine, but they are in a good constitution. In a week or so they come to the other.

I would love to hear how things progress. I have two adult weather Loaches, and I now believe one is definitely female, but I'm not so sure about the other. They are one of my favourite kinds of fish, so to hear about a breeding success would be exciting!

You make it sound so simple, "...get me a male... " where Do you live close to a loach paradise? Part of a network? I never see any in Munich...

I had only luck wolfram. I have the first loaches from the collogne wholesaler Mimbon, and I guess that I can find more of them in collogne pet shops. In another shop in collogne I have only seen two pairs of the Iksookima(?). I haven't bought them, 21 are more than enough.

The small Misgurnus is so nice, an original Misgurnus in xxs

If something has happens, I surely report it here.

Yesterday I have set up the breeding tank for the Cobitis. It is a 60cm/~23 inch tank. In the left corner you can see the female.



On the right is a "spawning bowl" This set up I have from Joerg Bohlen, he told me that Cobitis prefer moss as spawn substrate. On the bowl is a fly screen and thereon a bunch of javamoss. I've masked three sides of the tank with dark paper. In this way the loaches feel more secure. It is illuminated by a small spotlight (sometimes) and indirectly from another tank on my desk.

Last night they worked hard, I've found some sand in the bowl but nothing else.

Currently the temp is 21°C and in a few days I start to warm up the water. Step by step till ca. 25°C. But the next days I'll do nothing, only a generous feeding of living tubifex.

I have no idea how long does it take, maybe till spring of early summer. But I hope some day I can report a success.
