An example of Botia use of a bamboo habitat.

#1, the "loach hotel" habitat area, used by everyone. These photos are from noticing the two sections to the far right wiggling about on their own.


And use. The space was not big enough for the 2 loaches inside, but the segments are light enough that the loaches don't care- they are able to move them without getting crushed: relatively safe.


Same again, of big one's nose detail. The other is in behind.


And apparently it's edible. Pleco and Synodontis tooth marks can be see inside, particularly in the pulpy segment partition wood.
Also note tiny gobies on back-slate.

How long have those pieces been in your tank?
I put some bamboo in a tank once, but it got black and started rotting quite soon.

Probably 8 or 10 months. It's still in good nick- only the inter-chamber wood is getting soft, and it still takes a good deal of effort to bust it out/open the holes bigger. I think it has a lot to do with the species of bamboo used. I don't know what this one is- mix segments of a giant version. One and biggest of only 3 on-island, all invasives.
Lighter bit at bottom of photo is new yesterday.

Mine have Moss over them. Just decorative for us and fish of course.

Oh dear, different kinds of bamboo, never even occurred to me. The ones I used were not as thick as yours, so very much possible they are different.

Moss looks good as always. How did you attach it to the bamboo?

Very nice, I thought about getting some off ebay and trying the same idea. This makes me thing even more that it is a good idea.
