Weird water effect.

The water level was down due to evapouration in my River-Tank. I got home today and found this happening.......

Weird, self-generated wave-action. Note the plants swaying back and forth. The right-hand spraybar from an aged but reliable Fluval 304 is angled upwards to create surface agitation at the normal water level.
I did water-changes tonight so now it's returned to normal operation.

Think of it as added aeration!

But you need ear defenders!

I have the same thing happen if I leave the powerheads running at one end of my 7ft when doing water changes, its surprising how strong the wave effect can get in a short space of time. The fish certainly don't seem to mind but it it noisy

Is all of that movement from just two Aquaclears and one external filter?
It seems A LOT more than I am getting from two maxijets and two Eheim Eccos.

I have an old Fluval 4+ Internal that has unfortunately lost the nozzle attachment after being dropped. Due to this the water hits the lid of the filter before being directed outward. When I had it setup in the rivertank and the water level was right it created a very similar effect.

No need for wavemakers here!

A river tank must create similar wave patterns that you see in Marine set-ups, especially when the water level is low. The Hilltreams must love it, but I'm sure it must be loud. Even in my tank with my HOB filter if the water level is low, it can get pretty loud just with the water falling farther.
