I just picked up 6 of these beauties today.

Mixing nicely with other species.......

Straight into the food.....

sorry to burst your bubble Martin, they are'nt ornatus mate.
my guess would be either pallidus or a similar species.

ps, ornatus just have a line going from the snout to the top of the peduncle mate.

The pictures we have of ornatus show blotches down the lateral line area, but now I look again I see that the back doesn't feature the saddles on my fish. I looked at pallidus and I think you're correct.

I'm not bothered one way or the other. They're just very cute and active fish.

Lovely

I just moved my group from the Pangio tank to my hillstream tank. They seem to love to surf in the current infront of the powerheads and sit in the flow on the rocks

Very entertaining little fish-Mine are always out and about.

Ash what other loaches have you in the tank as i'm thinking of moving mine but i'm not sure if the crimsons might take offence.?

Mick I just have some Gastro, Sewellia and S.pridii at the moment. They have brought my S.pridii out a bit more. This is only a temp move for a few months till I get another larger hillstream tank setup were all will be moved to bar the S.pridii. I have not tried them in with my crimson schistura... I dont trust any of my larger schistura with anything smaller than them, although I have a little tiny white cheeked goby in with them for months and they have not done it harm, so perhaps N.ornatus would be ok?

Hi Martin , I'd say your loaches are Maysae , they are great loaches to keep , as they get bigger the top lobe of the male's caudal will get really extended

Hmmmm....not sure. I've kept masyai before and these fish seem to have different proportions.......or to my way of thinking (if my memory serves me well) a different overall general appearance.

Might just be a case of some good feeding being needed

Well perhaps it might be best to get some growth on them , and then put them back up for a bit more scrutiny, I'm pretty sure they are Maysae though , another giveaway is that red spot on the dorsal just under the black spot .

is that pic taken with your underwater camera Nonn?.
is there any vegetation in the waters that they live, or is it just marginal plants.?
