hill stream. P fasciatus

i went to BAS for a visit and to see if anything had come in recently.
they had a small shipment of Gastros of a decent size and at least 3 possibly 4 different species, they also had a tank full of P cheni that 70% were near fully grown and one contaminant so i picked up 3 cheni ! male 2 females and the oddball.
here's a couple of pics of it i'm sure it's P. fasciatus but would like confirmation on my ID.




i also got three of the Gastro's that i'll put on another thread for ID ing.

I would agree that its probably P. fasciatus.
These are a great fish that I have not seen around here for a few years.

Me too. I can spot an oddball sticking to the tank glass, from accross a room.

Looks very much similar to the Pseudogastromyzon fasciatus, yup!

cheers matey, that bloody fish took me 1 1/2 hour to catch mate, every time the net went in the tank that thing blended in with all the cheni in the tank.

Hello, mickthefish.

About 3 times, I have raised similar to your "hillstream.sp" in the past, too.
Is this same species?　　Pseudogastromyzon fasciatus?

The following picture are the individual that was raising last year.
Unfortunately only 5 months could be raised.
I suppose that it will be male.
He grazed algae well. However, he was not going to eat bloodworms.

it looks almost identical Odyssey, i do hope it gets the yellow in the pectoral and ventral fin like your's would that be down to the food they ate in your tank? or just once they'd settled in.?

I'm sure you will condition yours well, Mick, and the colors will show up in time.
I have had a few of these over the years with one being the same tan color as the one of Martin's used in the species index. The others looked more like yours to begin with but colored up a bit gaining yellow on the fins, particularly the dorsal. Those specimens, however, did not get the same tan color as the other fish who was in a different tank.
I wonder if there is are local color variations of this species.

Hi mickthefish.

It grazed algae well and seemed to have calmed down in the tank once.
It was strong-minded. It sent away other Hillstreams and occupied the best algae ground.

However, it got thinner suddenly five months later and it weakened.
I guess that the nutrient which is not provided would be wanting from algae in the tank.

Very colourful (your language, that is). At least you have somewhere to look for oddballs. They are few and far between in shipments of danios, platys and fancy goldfish........(just slightly exaggerated)

it's manchester slang Bslindgren.
in this shop it's always got the odd fish here and there out of the ordinary.
especially hillstreams and gobies. but i've found the odd rasbora and barb through keeping my eye's focused on the tanks.
