I went out to a local shop to pick up a couple of P. cheni this morning and while scrutinising the cheni I spotted what looked like a dorsal fin flick up in the top corner of the tank but the fish was hidden by the frame, so after asking the assistant to try and get the fish out of the corner because I knew immediately that it wasn't a cheni she promptly stuck a net in and out swam a 2"+ P. fasciatus

Needless to say it was in a bag with 3 cheni in minutes

I am now going ask the normal aquatics assistant to keep an eye out in any new shipments and ring me if anymore come in :D

Needless to say I got it at a good price also Image

Nice find Mark! 8) Was it a Peter B's shop by any chance? They have 4 tank fulls of P Cheni in at the moment. But i never looked that closely.

They sure are Mick, this one is almost certainly a male and is a stunning looking fish, really stocky build as well.

No not PB's this time Graeme, the PB's down here rarely get cheni in its always Gastro's or lineolata. I got these from my local Pets at home which isn't to bad with its fish compared to most of them and its the only shop near me that regularly gets cheni in.

You were lucky.
I'm always looking for mixed fish in tank of Cheni at an aqua shop.

It's luck of once a year that it can be found.

Mark, now your fasci has been in the tank a few days how elusive is he?.
i see mine maybe 3/4 times a day.
mind it's a treat when it does come out of hiding.

Up to now Mick mine hasn't hidden at all, it has staked itself out on the biggest cobble right in front of the outlet of one of the power heads and it is either there or about 5" away on the front glass, it does go a bit crazy when food goes in and it races round the tank like a complete nutter but then just goes back to its rock and sits there.

Its colours are really starting to come out now, the yellow in the fins is lovely.

These guys are diggers too. Mine used to dig through the gravel looking for food. Have you seen that behavior yet?
