almorhae fighting.

yesterday Doc came round to pick some barbs up, so i had to strip the tank of everything meaning all territories had gone.
once i put all the wood and caves back in i did a small water change just to top the level up, within an hour all fish were happy again then this skirmish started, it's the longest fight i've seen the almorhae do it started at around 8 pm and when i took this short vid the time was 1. 30 ish AM.
but it's the venom between the fish i wanted to show cos they were really going at it.
had a look at them first thing this morning and except for a few scratches and sore mouths they were mates again.

Great vid Mick, mine do get like that from time to time but it gets worse when the two big females are heavily with eggs.

Normally when mine start it goes on for a couple of hours and the kubotai or rostrata get dragged into it, one of my big males lost an eye during one of the worst disputes.

I can believe it Chris, but you want to see and hear the caudipunctata when they're on form, the big one you saw last night decided she/he had enough with the female S berdmori and decided to take half of her dorsal of.

That sort of behaviour is to be expected if you make your Botia watch Rocky with you.

My fish fight from time to time but I really dont see what they are doing.

1. Do the spines come out?

2. How do they inflict damage.

3. Is this fighting or courtship??? The Almorhae apeared to be targeting the vent area rather than doing the Botia twirl!

That is different than the dizzying round and round that I'm used to seeing from my Kubotai and striata. They got it going a few times but then back to the side by side, slower, and more calculated posturing.

B Robert, i did'nt realise the rocky balboa film was on until David M mentioned it.
Q1 yes the spines do come out but only when you see them attack.
Q2 by both the spines and biting
Q3 i'm sure those two fish are males so it's gotta be a fight for who's boss
