last night i went to a BBQ, and spotted a fish tank with some loaches in, and discovered the owner cant stand them and wanted to get rid of them. So they are now in my Q tanks :D :D :D

they were very feisty to catch, and the previous owners were quite alarmed when they discovered the spines. they were even more glad to be rid of them. one got himself stuck in the bag, and then again in the net when we put him in the Q tank

in the fish box for acclimatisation. they would have ripped bags to shreds

Image

they didnt want to sit still next to the 30cm ruler, but they are a fair size

Excellent rescue, Ms Nightingale!! 8) 8) 8) They are beautiful specimens. I wonder will they try and usurp Betsy and Bertha when they eventually get to meet them?!

The previous owner may not have liked them, but certainly didn't hold back on the food.

That's a nice to go package from the cookout! :D

What were the other fish in the tank that the owner preferred over those big Almorhae??

the previous owners wanted to empty the fish tank out so they can have guppies. they also have some synodontis that they really dont like, and some tetras they are just fed up with. i suppose everyone has different tastes.

Jim you are right, they must have been well fed. and they had a nice long tank too, they reckon the fish are about a year old, so at least they have had space to grow

it will be Fatty Striata that will probably cause the biggest fuss when they go into the loach tank. she is definately the boss of the tank even though Betsy and Bertha are bigger. as for which of the yoyos will come out on top, i have no idea, but i am sure there will be plenty of scuffles

Funny BotiaMaximus!

Helen Nightingale...I would not take guppies & tetras over yo yo's (especially with their personality). But as you said, everyone is different.
Nice save!

That is a complete reversal of the progression most fishkeepers make!!!

** "Loach Control - Helen speaking. - What's that? Tank full of YoYo's. No problem sir, we can take care of that for you. Let me schedule you for a 4pm pickup on those nuisance YoYo's." **
