questions for splendida owners.....how peaceful are they compared to other modesta type botiids? Ie morleti, caudipunctata, modesta, lecontei, etc.

What are they feeding on? take flakes? my caudis take flakes no problems.

I have this set up: 3 Y. caudipunctata, 6 B. udomritthiruji, 1. Y. eos, 6 B. striata.

Will the splendida mesh well?

I have plenty of hiding places in an 80 gallon tank.

i only have two at the present time Mike but i've found them to be real softies in the tank, their friends are striata, histrionica, caudi's, berdmori, kubotai and almorhae and darios.
i'm not sure if the eos might be to aggressive for this species but as you say you have plenty of hiding places.
as for food i've not seen mine eat flake but they do eat pellets but mine are mainly fed live and frozen foods.

Mark will be answering whether his feed on flake or not soon Mike.

Thanks mick...also was wondering...how big are they now as opposed to when you got them? fast/slow growers?

i'm finding them slow growers but wait for Marks answer when he's on.
i've recently seen some splendida that are a good bit bigger than the ones that we got, they are around the 3 inch body size.

Great to here....and is their coloration holding up in captivity or does it fade like for the histrionicas?

i'm positive they are looking alot better than when they first come in, so yes mate they on't fade out.

I wouldn't know how they are with other species Mike as mine are on their own, they are currently in a 36"x15"x12" (soon moving to their own 45 gallon) and do have their little click fests with each other but there is nothing to nasty at all.

Mine have taken spirulina flake but not in huge amounts, they do seem to like tetra prima, jmc catfish pellets and a couple of the hikari granules as well as frozen foods.

I have noticed some growth already in my 9 but they have no competition for food like Mick's fish do, they certainly are keeping their wild colouration, at first the body bands were only visible from certain angles but that has intensified to the point they are easily visible.

Hi I think mine have improved in colouration and pattern in the aquarium .
Even though they are in a busy enviroment .
The fish look fantastic and they are very playful characters ..
I think they are great fish to have .
You should definatley try to get them .
