Loaches Online Forum

After having to part with my gloriously fat loach heard (it nearly broke my heart - but they got a really good new home) I'm getting ready to set up my tanks again! The last time my clown loach tank was set up I was basically forced to give up on planting it. They kept eating or digging up or generally destroying all my plants. So I was forced to switch to fake plants which they were more then happy to hang out in or on (or under). Anyways! I wanted to actually find plants for my new set up that they would not destroy. I had some luck with java moss on my logs and a friend had decent success with java fern. Do any of you know of other plants that clowns will leave alone?

I have Java fern in all of my loach tanks and it does really well and the loaches tend to leave it alone, I also have Anubias nana and Crinum thaianum in my tanks and these also do well along with the loaches.

Mad Duff- Would you comment on the light requirements and growing speed of Anubias nana and Crinum thaianum? I only have Java fern, and would like to know how the other two compare.

I have around 76W of lighting on all my tanks and the Anubias grow well but fairly slowly, the Crinum on the other hand grow very fast, I have had the crinum well over 5ft long in a 2ft deep tank.

Plants I use on my tanks are Java fern (loaches ignore it), Giant Anubia and Giant Valisneria. Any of those need very low lightning. I have 80 Watts light total on a 450 liter tank.
About Giant Anubia, well... they last long but still their leaves looks like swiss cheese:

is bogwood suitable for a tank with weather loaches?

good! i got a piece from the pet shop to replace the bridge thing i had in the tank cause the goldfish weren't smart enough to not keep forcing their way under it

The loach tank at my local fish store has marimo moss balls, kind of a plant I guess. I can see the loaches picking at it, but there never appears to be any damage.

my loaches love hiding in the bog wood and the goldfish loved eating the excess mossy stuff on it.
