Changing colours

Post by emi-chan » Mon Sep 07, 2009 7:51 pm

Do loaches change colour as they get older? it's just that my two weather loaches are different colours and as they are different in size i thought it may be because of their age. the smaller one is brownish with dark speckles and the bigger one is more greyish with bigger speckles.

Weather Loaches can be all sorts of variations on that mottled look. I am not sure how much they change with age, but they sure can be different from each other.

Some Loaches do change patterns as they grow:
Yoyo markings get more complex.
Clown Loach stripes sort of split.

Some Loaches seem to come in 2 (or more) basic patterns that may be geographically linked. Kubotai can have lots of small spots or fewer larger spots.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
