Today's pictures of my adorable kuhlis (is there another sort?)





I dropped in some thawed frozen brine shrimp, and within moments, all six kuhlis went PSYCHO!

Great pics!! I need to make one of those shelves, so I can observe mine more.

they have the CUTEST little faces, don't they.

That is a very cool way to observe them. They do not look like they mind too much.

It's the barbels that give them their delightfully adorable appearance. That and the stripes. And their eel-like bodies ... and their dark eyes ...

I can't say this enough, I'm so jealous of your Kuhlii setup! What kind of plastic do you use? Acrylic? I might give this a shot when we're moving the tank.

It's just a hunk of plexiglass perched on four caps from bottled water. You can get plexi (or acrylic) at any home-improvement store, and cut it with an X-Acto, then sand the sharp edges smooth. Doesn't have to be perfectly square, and scratches are OK. Mine is leftover from another project. Just make it an inch (or more) narrower than the tank floor is front to back. It's easy to set up, and take apart to clean (mulm accumulates on the ceiling underneath). I don't clean the bottle caps, I just replace them with new ones.
My kuhlis also LOVE Indian Almond leaves all over the place.

Just had to reply as I just discovered that my 3 pangios had a batch of babies, so far i only see two youngsters but in my tank there could be more. I really love these fish. I have a similar setup only with stone layed flat. So they have tons of hiding space. I will try to get some decent shots when the little ones come from under the stone which is quick and seldom from my observation. Seems the Pangios are more shy then the oblongas are, at least in my tank. I love them too, am thinking of setting up just a 20 long for a group of them. Just wanted to reply i feel like telling the world, although most people would be like so what, right . For us fish freaks its a big deal.

I like the plastic idea easy access and yet they still have a great place to feel secure.

I would LOVE for my kuhlis to produce babies, and have done all I can think of to encourage them. The only other fish in my tank are 3 angels, so normal people don't think my tank is empty.

Nice pictures! I never thought of the shelf idea! That's a great way for them to feel secure without being completely hidden.

It's amazing how much variation you will find in Kuhli Loach markings. Each one of mine has a different pattern of stripes, some also with spots when viewed from the top.

I have both and I have also found the Kuhlies to be more shy and sedentary. The Oblongas and even the Doriae I have occasionally come out and swim up and down the tank walls, whereas the Kuhlies hide for most of the day. Congratulations on the babies!
