They click to?

My wife and I are used to the eight Clown loach clicking when there eating there favourite food, but the other day I caught to of my zebra loach eating and fighting over a sinking wafer and I swear it was them clicking.

It was not as ear bursting as the Clown's can anyone else verify that zebra loach click? Or have my Clowns learnt how to throw there clicking

:D

All Botiids click to varying degrees. The volume and tone are governed by overall body size.

To be slightly OT, our clowns sounds like kitties compared to our bala sharks. The clowns are still small, but the balas aren't that old either, and you can easily hear it across the room, even sometimes when you have headphones on! Although I think balas smack their lips together instead of the way botiid-loaches do.

my tiger loaches could always click louder than any other loach regardless of size. clowns, yoyos, darios, zebras and kubs all seem to have their own unique tone. it is also odd to note which of my loaches have no idea how to click and which ones can. some of my youngest kubs can, but my 5-6 year old one can't. same with the clowns and yoyos, some of the older ones can, some can't. also, some click a lot and while playing and others only do it when they are startled or greyed out and fighting.

We've observed that to some extent as well. Some of our clowns can click, some of them don't. Still, no match for the balas. Honestly, I still flinch when the balas eat :|

All my botiids click, some louder than others or for better foods. My bigger fish also toss small stones into the glass at times, that can sound like clicking too.
