loach lays on it's side on the bottom - normal behavior?

Post by ACOhara » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:36 pm

I recently added two new zebra loaches to my tank that already had three zebras. I found one of the news guys laying on his side on the bottom of the tank multiple times in the last couple days. At first I thought he was dead, now I worry he is really sick and will be dead soon. But he perks up and acts normal when something disturbs him. I have heard of loaches and weird behavior - is this one of them? I have only had loaches for a couple months, so I am still unfamiliar with their behaviors. This just doesn't look good...

He is just being a loach. All part of their behavior.

Loaches like to scare their owners. :) Lay on their back, lay on their side, sleep upside down, . . . Even though I know this, my loaches can still scare me, and you will see them swimming away giggling.

Normal. My smallest clown likes "to play dead". Freaks you out! This is even worse in a QT tank, treating for ick. :x
