Has anyone one here kept these? My local fish store is supposed to get some in.
I have heard they are similar to schistura in aggression levels which means they are more aggressive than most hillstreams

yes, I have kept 4 of them in a tank together with Barbatula and Cobitis. They was very friendly to the other loaches. My were lesser aggressive than other hillstreams e.g. Pseudogastromyzon

That's interesting. I have found that there is not much information out there about keeping this species. I had heard they were fairly aggressive as far as hillstreams go,more like schisturas, but I am finding that mine (I picked up three) are not. I had also read that they don't eat much vegatable matter, yet mine enjoy par boiled spinach leaves. They also enjoy brine shrimp, blood worms and mysis shrimp. They look quite similar to Liniparhomaloptera disparis, but are more active particularly when food is introduced. In that way they behave more like schisturas. I must say, I am enjoying watching them very much.

It seems that the generic name of this fish was changed in 2006.
Formosania lacustre

Hi Jim
I posted some pics here
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/forums/ind ... topic=3427
as they are "newcomers" I couldn't tell you more than Thomas did. they remind me much of
annamia normani in shape and behaviour. the smaller specimen - 6-7 cm like to play around. but all in all not agressive.
I think you have seen the marvellous video about Taiwan species?
about the name: they are still as crossostoma on loaches list. this time the trade was faster
cheers Charles

Thanks, Charles!
Mine look more like the heavily marked fish in your pics. One is intermediate between the pale fish and the heavily marked fish.
So far mine do not seem to show any aggression toward any of the other hillstream tank mates, but sometimes do fight amongst themselves.
The largest fish will also sometimes chase the others away from a particular rock situated in the flow. But its just typical hillstream behavior.
They are very active feeders and will push their snouts into the gravel looking for bloodworms and brine shrimp. I have seen them feed some on algae wafers, too and they really like par-boiled spinach leaves.
I saw that video on Taiwanese fish several months ago, but have been unable to find it lately. Do you have a link to that video?
