Hello! I have a 30 gallon tank, and I just love dojos. My nitrates are 0, nitrites 0, amonia 0, pH 7.4. Is my tank big enough for 2 or 3 dojos? If it is, is it big enough for other fish too?....thanks, Tracey

Hi, this sounds to me like a small tank for such a large fish as the Dojo.
However, I don't keep them so I would appreciate comments from those that do.
It would be helpful if this site recommended the aquarium size in the species profiles.

What are the dimensions? They are much more important than volume in determining whether a fish fits or not.
I also think that it is likely that the tank is too small.

I have read articles that said that two dojos in a 20-gallon tank are adequate, and I kept as many as three in mine with no problems, at all. I have since rehomed all of my dojos into a 65-gallon, and have gotten a couple more.
I think that one or two would probably be fine in a 30, especially if it is a 30-long, as they do grow to about 10 or 12 inches. Usually in aquaria, they stay within the 6- to 7-inch range.
I think it's more important that you keep the water quality very high and feed them highly nutritious foods. Do your water changes regularly and vacuum your substrate at least once a month. If you tank is cycling, wait until it finishes the cycle before adding the dojos.
I think a school of small glofish danios or zebras, or white-cloud minnows would fit in well with the dojos.
Please remember that dojos are cooler water fish, and won't fare well in very warm tanks. Also, keep a tight lid on your dojo tank -- they are master escape artists.

I have two 15cm ( 6 inch ) dojos in a 20 gallon tank along with some goldfish.
There is no heater, just room temperature.
The dojos seem happy, they are out all the time
