I've got an unknown fish in my tank for a while now, and really want to know what species it is.
I don't think its a loach but i'm guessing you guys know the most about hillstreams than any other forum.







The shop and the wholesale said it was an goby.
But an good friend of mine said it had a predator like mouth.

At first i thought is was an Pseudogobius sp. but indeed the mouth is different.
I'm hoping you guys can identify him, i love oddballs but i allso want to know its name and some information.

Well it's definitely a goby. However, since it's a small freshwater goby of unknown origin, possibly female, without any distinguishing characteristics = I suspect even experts will struggle to ID that fish.

It could very well be a female in the Rhinogobius Duospilus group.

Possibly a Rhinogobius, but not duospilus.

Any idea on location and how big is this fish? Really interesting fish.

Nice looking fish. It may redigobious or pseudogobious. Definitely not r. duospilus. Post it on yahoogobygroup.

Can you tell us where you live, Vincentp ? Might help narrow down where the fish could have come from (if it was a local fish, anyways...)

I know of someone in Australia who has a very large variety of gobys but he only keeps fish that are native to Australia. And there is also a group of people in the Australian Museum who are cataloging all the goby species in the Australasian pacific region, including doing genetic testing and cataloging. There are some very VERY interesting looking gobys around Australia.

I live in The Netherlands Matt, and even the largest shops doens't know this goby.

I've posted it on some dutch forums, but nobody knows the name.
I'm trying to make some better photo's and some movies, and maybe the person you know knows this goby. i just need to find some goby experts.

I've also found an German goby forum, i'm posting the same story there.
If somebody there knows the name i'll be posting it here also

There are many undescribed gobies out there and little info about many that are described. I've received replies from Dr. Ronald Watson and Dr. Helen Larson, both high profile ichtyologists that specialize in gobies, at yahoogobygroup. It may take some time. But if you post the pics that you have you'll likely get an ID.

And if you find out, please let us know.

It is indeed the pseudogobiopsis oligactis.
