hi everyone im thinking of butting this big bit of slate i have in my 4ft tank but im a bit sceard becouse im just sat here thinking would it brack the glass or crack it ???

Do you have any gravel or sand in the tank already? If so, that will help distribute point pressure from the piece.

You can also use some RTV silicone to make feet for the piece of slate, so the slate would essentially be sitting on little rubber pads (well silicone, but you get the idea). You can do this pretty easily, either with three globs so you have a tripod, or by putting a little jig together to hold the slate and forming the base by gravity, which tends to self level.
