Is my loach ok?

I have a black weather loach, he seems to be acting odd...
He has taken to sort of playing dead, he'll swim around eratically for a few minutes and then just go limp and float to the bottom (or on to a plant) and lies wherever he stops.
He'll then start again a little later on, the longest I've seen him staying in one position on the bottom is about half an hour..
His other trick at the moment is wedging himself behind the filter, whcih is suctioned on to the side of the tank near the top, although I've not timed he can seem to stay like that for hours!!!
Occasionally he seems to swim on his side for a few minutes, like he has broken a fin or something and then he goes right way round.
Can anyone offer any advice as to whether this is normal or not? Thanks!!
