I am shortly going to have to treat my entire tank with levamisole, as per the recent thread. But...it's heavily planted with large established Cryptocorynes and there's no chance of catching all of the loach and shifting them to a Q tank. Does anyone know if the plants will suffer from the treatment?
And on a related topic, now that the successful use of levamisole to treat / prevent skinny disease is so established, why the hell don't the importers treat the fish before sending them out to dealers? How many disappointed people must there be who assumed that the healthy-looking Clowns fish they bought from the LFS were going to thrive?

Levamisole and plants?

All my tanks are planted heavily with Java fern and java moss which were not affected, my Sidthimunki tank has vallis, cabomba, anubias and an onion plant which were not affected. The only plant that seems to have been affected by the Levimasole is an amazon sword but I cant say 100% that it was the Levimasole because I cant keep amazon swords alive anyway
, with all the plants that are ok I actually doubt that the Levimasole has anything to do with the dead amazon sword.
On the other point I dont think the importers will treat the fish because then its adding to their overheads and the cost will be passed on the fishkeeper and some shops will just move to cheaper importers who dont treat their fish. We also discussed at the meeting at Emmas last month that it is surprising that one of the big manufacturers hasnt caught on to Levimasole by now, but then rather than paying £15 for 500ml at the vets they would probably try to charge some vast amount for a 60ml bottle.

Pardon my honesty - I am a Northerner
14 loach species bred, which will be next?
I have huge forest of crypts in the 30 I've just treated 3 times and they did just fine. It has never bothered my planted tanks at all. Now, copper sulfate is a WHOLE 'nother story!
Another reason they may not do so is because it really is not the definitive final solution. Often it takes levamisole in conjunction with antibiotics to cure. In fact, on two occasions I treated with just levamisole, the clown improved, and then several months later was getting skinny again. The second time around I used it with antibiotics and that did the trick. Don't know if they got it back again from the tank, or not, but after the treatment with the antibiotic they have not relapsed.
