Erromyzon digging

Post by shuwae » Mon Nov 11, 2013 7:44 pm

How bad do they dig? I have some that have ruined the substrate. I am a little paranoid they will dig near the larger rocks and make rocks fall on them or the other inhabitants. I have the larger rocks on egg crate but the ones on the side are not laying on the egg crate itself as they were placed on top of the sand. I am glad I do not have anymore rooted plants in the substrate as there are uneven piles of sand everywhere in the tank. Should I just look forward to having a messy tank for now on?

"Similar to the Pseudogastromyzon species in behavior. Erromyzon sinensis is unusual for a sucker type hillstream in that its pectoral and pelvic fins are widely separated. This species tends to dig in the gravel searching for food, more than most hillstream species including Pseudogastromyson fasciatus."

Thanks. The reason I ask is that the old pseudogastromyzon myersi, I had, did not dig this much. I guess it is time to fix some rocks next time.
