I'm interested in purchasing a sand substrate for my Weather loach trio. I currently have large dime sized smooth gravel, the original plan was to be planted heavily. But my decision of going with anchoring plants has opened up new options. Also I have created sand beds out of large round seashells that my fish enjoy. With income taxes right around the corner, I am now considering a (not my first) substrate change. Kind of... I would like to keep the back 1/3 of the aquarium floor; current gravel and the front end some type of sand. What I would like to know is what are some of the better products for dojo keepers? Also any ideas for separating the two are welcomed. Oh this aquarium is a standard 55 gallon. If anyone has an opinion on my stock, let a rip! It seems like close quarters to me but the general consensus seems to consider it adequate.

I was actually thinking the same thing for my tank. I was going to layer out and area near a small piece of drift wood at the corner of my 55 for my kuhlis. They have a lot of places to hide and fine gravel, but I think sand is the way to go. I was thinking of using Estes Marine Sand for mine and trying to house it with larger stones near the edges to keep it from blowing all over the tank. Over all, what every one has to say is good and it doesn't cause pH or calcium problems. I would suggest keeping it away from your filters, though. Estes is a finer sand it will damage them less, but it will affect them in time. Just be ready for the price. It's $1 for 1lb.
