They both like spinach.
I put a parboiled spinach leaf in with the new Sewellia last night. They did nothing with it until today. Now the dominant one is sitting on it munching away. That adds to the list of hillstreams that like the stuff. P. cheni, P. fasciatus, and L. disparis are the others I've found that enjoy a good parboiled spinach leaf now and then.

dojos will eat it if it's chopped up a bit; though as far as I can see dojos will eat almost anything. and some other fish, but they're not loaches, so they'd be off-topic here

Interesting, Jim! I happened to have bought a bag of spinach at the supermarket today, so I will give it a go with my Sewellia over the next couple of days and report back.

I was worried for a bit there. Thought it might have something to do with Olive Oyl............work it out.

I've never tried my Hillies with Spinach....might have to give it a go.

I haven't used spinach as much lately as I used to. If you remember, I have some pics (still in the old computer ) that show young chenis and disparis just demolishing a spinach leaf. The chenis and disparis I have now don't seem to like it as much as the originals for some reason.

You are not listing Beaufortia/Gastros, does it mean it is not worth trying spinach with them?

In other nutty hillstream diet stuff: schisturas here apparently love peas ?!

I always thought gastros would love the stuff since they seem to enjoy algae so much, but they never touch it. Neither do beaufortias.

If you can find it i'd be interested to know if Sewellia go for swis chard. Our cheni love this stuff. We place the par boiled green leaves in the tank and come back the next day to just the white skeleton of the leaf structure, it's quite impressive just how much gets eaten.

I'll have to give the Swiss Chard a try. I had never thought of that.
I havegiven kale leaves to the chenis and disparis before and while they liked it, they wouldn't eat it as quickly as they did the spinach.

As suggested by LES I tried par-boiled swiss chard in several of my hillstream tanks. As in LES's case, the chenis love it, and so do the Sewellias. I haven't seen the lone L. disparis check it out yet, but I bet it will.
