Need to identify my loach

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, my name is Raphael, 25 years old, I live in The Netherlands and I have an 70G tank with 5 clowns and 3 unknowns.

So, I have bought 3 loaches at the shop, they where labeled as Botia histrionica. But when I looked in the loach profiles it didn't have the same markings as Botia histrionica. It's kinda in between Botia rostrata and Botia histrionica. ANyway, does anyone know what Loach I got?

My pic is a little blurry, I will make some new ones when the lights are on.

there was a terrific series of pics of the 'evolution of baby kubotai markings' in a thread in the archives but the pics aren't there when I view. Anyone know what happened?

juveniles of b kubotai, b rostrata, and b histronica can look very similar. Not being much of an expert I'll defer to those here who are that should be better able to help you.

And welcome to LOL. :D

I think those are juvenile B. kubotai. I have some pics of juveniles somewhere that look just like that, I'll have to try and locate them (might still be on my old computer).

Found the pics! :D

Here is an example of a juvenile Botia kubotai:

At the time (back in 2004), I had originally ordered them in as Botia histrionica, but they actually grew up to be Botia kubotai.

Like Shari said, it's a shame that Robin's photos of the development of the markings on her fish aren't still available to view as they were a great document charting the evolution of the markings.

Shari, Emma, if you know where the post is and the pictures were hosted on the loach Coppermine, just go into Edit and take out the first number 2 in each picture URL.

Martin.

I think the last update we had from Robin on this was on the old loach forum. The post is here: http://aquaweb.pair.com/forums/archives ... view=93870 but we have no way of editing it. I suppose when one of us has got a bit of spare time, we could go into Coppermine and see if the pics are there in any order?

I also think they are kubotai's. They are doing great in my tank, they are not even skiddish when I approach the tank.

Well, I even went into the source code but it would not allow deletion of the 2 in the URL.

So, here is the link to her photo gallery if you'd like to look there. Doesn't show the progression in the neat way Robin had laid it out in the original thread, but there are pics. You could also read the thread that Emma posted to see the comments made by other loachaholics. 8)
