Proper conditions for zippers

Post by mikev » Thu Oct 12, 2006 11:30 pm

Is there any information on Zipper Loach (Acanthocobitis botia)?

There are really two questions:

1> Are they more suitable for a standard loach tank or for a hillstream river tank (with schisturas)?

My feeling right now is that they will do fine in either.

2> What is the right substrate?

Given their tendency to burrow and dig into the substrate, I'm a bit afraid of gravel: I think they may end up without barbels after a while.

That's the idea of the profiles.

Does exactly what it says on the can.

New profiles are without a doubt a major improvement over the current situation. Great job :D

As for the zippers, they might be becoming my new favorite species. A very interesting behavior pattern, seemingly halfway between kuhlis and schisturas. particularly loves Bloodworm has been noticed :D

And it also makes it easier to link the profile, rather than typo's from hell. (speaks for one self)

I realized one thing looking at the profile: the temp interval is very narrow:
Temp: 75.2ºF to 78.8ºF (24 - 26ºC)
for a fish that occupies a large geographical area, this is strange, one would expect an 8F-10F range, perhaps even more.

To an extent, those temperatures are a guide, not cast in stone Mike. That's not too cold and not so warm that oxygen concentration starts to drop off......just cozy.
