The suborbital spines of a 5" loach couldn't have been easy to swallow! :o

I can vouch for the effectiveness of a 4" fish's spines.

Bled like a stuck pig :?

I'm very very sorry you lost your loach to your cat. That must have been sad to see.

Ever step on a Sea Urchin?

It sucks really bad. I don't recommend the experience. The spike actually shoots out into your foot as deep as it can, usually down to the bone. I always walk the shallow parts of the mediterranean carefully. Its infested beyond belief. Its neat when you catch them walking. Their spines all move like a millipede...

Of the animal bites and stings I've had from various snakes, notably a 9 foot boa constrictor, large lizards, hamsters, rats, bad dog bite, dragonflies praying mantises...

I'd say Sea Urchin and Dragonfly bite are the two most painful things. You woudln't think dragonflies could bite hard but they have a deceptively huge razorsharp mouth and the biteforce they are capable of is mindblowing...

I hear Mantis-shrimp attacks are the apex of painful acute animal attacks though...

I've heard of them tunneling through solid rock and smashing 1" thick glass...

Martin you might remember from the heydeys of PN like 2 years ago I had a lovely silver angel.

He went to live with Hans down town (NyNick from PN) because he had an amazing biotope going and the angel went to live with several friends... Until one day it was spooked by his cats (he happened to forget to close the lid that day) and the poor guy jumped and was eaten... Hans saw it happen but he was too slow and the cats too fast and by when he caught them my poor angel was gone... :(

What a way to go... eaten alive....

My (WIFE's !!!) cat had a "Wanda" moment the other day: my wife caught his with big male beta's fins coming out of his mouth like dayglo-blue drool.
Much screaming and cat bolted. Fish found in the landscaping 5 minutes later. This was about a week ago, and he and his special friend filled a nest with eggs yesterday. Seems to have come out of it OK.
Come to think of it, i think the drama was on the 13th (Friday)
Odd luck.
I'm not a cat person... i may need to get a bigger snake and even the playing field :)

Angelfish,
Mantis shrimp nips are like parana bites- deeeeeeep and leaky but very/stunningly little pain. Super sharp teeth/claws and lightening attack. Deep and takes forever to heal... it hurts then.
Depends on the shrimp species i s'pose.
My vote for most painful is/are jellyfish... man-o-war, for example. Very sore, messy, leaky... did i mention sore? Plenty of naughty language. Makes a messy scar. Chick's don't dig it. Urchins leave you with a little purple tatoo as the spine breaks down in your skin.
I'll not get into how i get tagged by these things.... not so bright, this one.

Let me guess...lives in Jamaica...lots of ocean around...plays in ocean...doesn't pay attention to the stuff on the bottom (of the ocean)...or takes dares from other guys who play in ocean...gets wounded...women go 'eeeewwww!'...stops playing with the dangerous stuff...
