travel long distance for a loach

Post by distrbd » Thu Oct 19, 2006 9:00 am

Hi all.
This is my first post .I was browsing the classified section of price network.ca and found an ad : a clown loach for $5 , from a guy who is going to set up shop in front of a big pet store and sell his fish and equipments. Now if I tell the wife that I am going to a mall 30 miles away to buy one fish from a guy I don't know,she is going to think I am really obsessed,stupid or both.But I am beginning to love loaches,I realized they are more than snail eliminators.so What do you think? Am I crazy?is this a symptom of a new obsession? :P

The real first question to ask is are you ready to give it a good home? You didn't mention your tank size or other stock you currently have.

Personally, I don't think 30 miles is too far. I drive that far for all the time.

And yes, it is a symptom of an obsession but thats OK. I don't think you'll hear anyone here calling you stupid for wanting loaches--its a loach forum!

What size is the loach in question? large clowns need large tanks...and they do get large. Have you seen some of the pics of large clowns on here?

Here is a video of Marge, Emma Turner's giant clown (and pod) at feeding time ;-)

Botia species (and clowns) appreciate the company of their own kind. If you want to see the natural complexity of their social structure you should keep 5 or more of each. 8)

Now you're reeely gonna get the wife wondering if your brain has been taken over... :lol:

your wife will probably worry if she found out the distance some people have traveled to get loaches. 30 miles is a mere stroll compared to the distance that Graeme in particular will travel (see the sticky about the best fish shop at the top of the loach forum page)

it is definately worth getting more loaches of the same species as you already have, and then you will find the loach hobby truly addictive :D
there are already several people with this afflliction in your area - it msut be in the air :D

what other fish you you have with your loaches?

....until he enters into the late-night realms of Yodaspeak, that is! :P :P :P

Welcome to Loaches Online, distrbd. :D You really must add more of the same to your loach collection. It is considered quite cruel to keep Botiine species singly. Add more and you will be rewarded with so much loachy fun and interactions between the group. We consider 5 to be the minimum number here.

I will definitely get 6 more loaches for each tank ,they are about $40 for 3 in Toronto,if I find a local breeder here I will get even more.
That's it,I am officially infected!
I should start looking around for a breeder.

Fear not. I have driven from Spring Grove Pennsylvania to
Philly = 120 miles
Virginia Beach = 255 miles
Baltimore = 72 miles

When you start taking days off work, camping at the post office, or on your front porch rocker with a cup of coffee waiting for some from of express carrier to arrive then you might have a problem.

Come to think of...... I have a problem...... Nothing another tank and bunch more loaches wont cure! Ut Oh

Sheesh theyve got me
Hello all from Happy River
I have lost count of how many tanks I have

A local breeder of what? Very few loaches breed well in captivity...

Menagerie usually has a decent selection of loaches. Right now he has Clown, Rostrata, Histrionica, Kubotai, and Dario, and possibly horseface but I think they sold out

Yo yo's are available in decent shape @ Finatics on Kennedy...

Clowns are costly and fragile. You should buy a clown more for its condition than the price. Its not worth a five dollar loach that will be a problem, always make sure they're healthy
